John C. Chappell, Sr., age 88 of of Senoia, Georgia, passed away at his home on November 15, 2018. John was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; six children, John Jr. (Sue), Paul, David (Debbie), Richard (Jane), William and Elizabeth; seven grandchildren: Stephanie, Micah (Alexandra), Brandon (Amy), Alex (Kristin), Anna (Barak), Alyssa and James and great grandchildren Easton and Torrie; Brenda Hughes (niece), Pete Wilson (nephew), Lynn Wilson (niece), Richard Chappell (nephew), Gracie Wilson (niece), David D. Chappell (nephew), Joy Chappell (niece).
John was born on November 6, 1930 on a small farm in Sharpsburg, GA; the son of Amos and Grace Adcock Chappell.
He served 21 years in the United States Army, serving our country in the Vietnam and Korean Wars, and retired as an Army Sergeant in 1968. After retiring from the Army, he became gainfully employed at General Motors Lakewood Plant and retired after 21 years.
John loved to travel and see the world. He and Shirley spent many of their retirement years traveling the world and sailing the seas on cruise ships, and had a chance to travel to some international locations with their daughter Elizabeth. John loved the USA and was a proud American; he rode in several Memorial Day parades in uniform.
A viewing will be held on Friday evening, November 16, 2018 from 6-8 PM at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan, Georgia. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Senoia, Ga.
