Gladys Irene (Flournoy) Bishop, 76, aka “ReeRah, Ree, and Granny” was called home to our Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
Mrs. Bishop was born on June 5, 1941, the daughter of Hubert and Lucille Hancock Flournoy, in Gay, Georgia. Mrs. Bishop is survived by her daughter, Joyce Bishop of Newnan. She had 4 grandchildren, Joshua Bishop of Newnan, Mandy Bullard of Sharpsburg, Jessika Cavender of Newnan and Raye Bishop of Newnan. She had 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob & Ben Bishop of Newnan, Jaxon & Hiram Cavender of Newnan, Raylee & McKenzie Bullard of Missouri, and Avery Bond of Sharpsburg. She is survived by 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Bobby (Valorie) Flournoy, Billy (Patty) Flournoy, Charles Flournoy, Evelyn Spivey and Mae Barber. Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, David Bishop in March of 1989, her son, Ray Bishop in April of 2005 and her last son, Roger Bishop in July of 2017.
Mrs. Bishop was a very loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. By those who were fortunate enough to know her, she is already missed terribly. Her presence made life easier for everyone around. Mrs. Bishop was a gentle and very kind spirited woman who loved everyone with her whole heart. She was a sister in Christ and her never ending faith was admired by many.
Mrs. Bishop worked as a homemaker and also, along with Mr. David Bishop, deceased husband, worked in their business for over 30 years. After Mr. Bishop died in 1989, she started working for Belk’s Department Store until she retired after 20 years of loyal service, in 2009. Since her retirement, unfortunately due to many chronic health issues, severe lung problems and including A.M.D. (blindness) she wasn’t able to drive anymore or just going to church became impossible for her the past 3-4 years. Mrs. Bishop loved God and her family so very much, and now she is finally home at rest without any pain or difficulty breathing.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, 2018, 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at South Metro Ministries in Sharpsburg, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Allan Mathura & Pastor Darrell officiating. Graveside service will be held at Senoia City Cemetery where Mrs. Bishop will finally be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. David, and her 2 sons, Roger & Ray. Pallbearers are Fletcher Cavender, David Bond, Walt Bishop, Craig Williams, Chris Meacham, and John Thomas Floyd.
The family would like to thank everyone for all their love, support, prayers, kind words and telephone calls during this extremely difficult time for all of us. Our lives as we knew it prior to January 7, 2018, will never be the same again. Mrs. Bishop, your presence made life easier for everyone around you and you will be missed by many, many people.
